- When this painting was shown in the Art Gallery of Northumberland, a schoolboy said he found the cow mysterious. Living in the country where cows are a common sight to both him and me, I was especially happy with his reaction. They say a weed is a plant in the wrong place. A cow in the wrong place, such as the one that appeared in my garden one day, is a wondrous sight, as exotic as any non-domesticated animal.
- Note: in the reduced size of a photograph it's difficult to show the true gradations of green and some of the details in the dark surrounding portions.
