- The Lion Table is made of painted plaster mixed with resins and strengthened with steel reinforcing rods. The handpainted colours can be specified. For example, metallic paints (such as bronze, gold, or silver) could be used. Another table (not shown here) is near-ebony.
- The Lion Table uses Egyptian-inspired colours and motifs in the centrepiece. As for the lions, these are not fierce Chinese lions but rather gentle and wise mythical beasts with almost a Zen serenity to them. The face tells you the lion understands everything (life, the way of the world, the potential for joy and wisdom, the potential for human suffering). All this and more the lion knows -- though he may not tell you
- When desired (and for an additional cost), the table can also come with a polished wooden base joining the three legs together a few inches above the ground. But in most cases this base is unnecessary. The interior metal rods already provide strength and stability to the table and often we feel it is more elegant having the feet alone. But that is up to the individual.
- The glass top, because of its weight, is not included and is best ordered locally. The one pictured here is 36" in diameter, 3/4" thick (1/2" is fine too) and with bevelled edges.
- The Lion Table is one of my joint projects with a colleague, Pierre Moreault, at the Atelier Moulin Noir (right here at SwallowHill). I did the design, sculpting, and painting; he made the moulds, did the castings, and worked out the reinforcing rod details.
