Here are some guidelines on how to use this site. It's fairly intuitive and most of you will rarely have to visit this page. We used to stick all these instructions on the main pages. Big mistake! (:-( )

Folks got lost in the instructions and often never found their way into the content itself. We hope you'll find the removal of all instructions to this Help Page makes the site a lot cleaner.

What browser works with this website?

Probably most recent browsers will work satisfactorily. But the ones I am familiar with are Netscape and Internet Explorer. The most recent free downloads can be obtained here:

See also below for suggestions as to browser settings and navigation tips.

What's in the RodMer Short Story Room

As explained on the About page, there are some seven of our short stories. They're labelled as seven packages (AA to GG). You can select and read any individual short story (as many as you want) immediately on-line or you can download a package (each containing one short story) in 'rich text format' for printing out on your printer.

Suggestions for browser settings

If you have a standard 640x480 screen, set your browser window to cover the whole screen. In Netscape you may want to turn off Toolbar, Location, and Directory Buttons under the Options Menu in order to maximize the window size for graphical and score viewing. In Internet Explorer you may want to turn off the Button Bar and Favorites Bar under the View Menu. If you have a larger screen you can ignore the last sentences. I assume you've already set the font to a comfortable size for your viewing. If not, you can adjust the font - in Netscape under Options/General Preferences/Fonts; in Internet Explorer font size under the View Menu and font face under Edit/Preferences/Web Browsers/Language-Fonts.

Navigation tips for this short story section of our website

At the top of each page you'll see a navigation line like:

[ About | What's New | Story Room | RodMer Home | Links | Help]

Just below the heading at the top of the page, you will see a Location line. This shows the page you are on now and its parent, grandparent, etc. -- just to orient you within the hierarchy of this site.

From time to time a link will open a second browser window. Simply close this second browser window when you are finished with it.

rtf, what's that?

rtf is 'rich text format'. It is readable in most word processors.

Downloading Compressed Files

The short story package rtf files are compressed (in .rtf.sitx format). You will need the free Stuffit Expander for decompressing the downloaded rtf.sitx files. The decompressed file will then be in rtf format, which your word processor can read and print.
