This is an incomplete sectionc intended to cover various topics one or the other of us finds intriguing. The first topic introduced here (some years ago) is: Profits vs Wages, the Ocandida Case.

1. Profits vs Wages: The Ocandida Case: A Search for a Just Relationship between Average Wage Levels and Profits

If a plumber earns $20 an hour, should a shareholder earn 10% on capital? 5%? 30%? Or is the question irrelevant? This issue is addressed through the tale of the farmers of Ocandida, some of whom begin one day to build gum factories to cater to the gum chewing proclivities of the The Merryglands, the large country bordering Ocandida. How much profit is it fair for the gum factory owners to make?

2. Understanding Islamic Civilization

These are a student's notes following two excellent courses here in Cobourg:

  1. "Understanding Islam" -- a course presented in Nov & Dec 2004 in St. Peter's Church in Cobourg
  2. "Islamic Civilization and its Influences on the Western World" -- an initial series presented by the Northumberland Learning Connection
The notes here are more on the former than on the latter but I hope to add more material so my "student's notes" cover what I learned from both courses.
