What was New at the Merike Lugus Sculpture Garden
What Was New at the Merike Lugus Sculpture Garden in Summer/97
- I'm busy working on my solo sculpture show which will take place at the Art Gallery of Northumberland in Cobourg ON in January 1998. A few of these forthcoming works may be suitable for the garden.
- The annual Civic Garden Centre tour from Toronto (a part of the Edwards Gardens complex) took place on June 25, 1997 (four busloads of gardeners) and for the occasion I installed several more sets of sculpture in the garden as follows:
- a collection of 'Garden Butterflies' clustering among the flowers and waiting to take off exuberantly into the sky
- a collection of Wood Nymphs inhabiting the nearby trees
- I am presently creating an exterior version (waterproofed and UV-proofed) version of 'First Child'
- In addition I installed a new pergola and a granite patio table (our own piece of the Canadian Pre-Cambrian Shield

- We added Crescendo to our site so you can hear music immediately as you wander through my different gallery rooms. For more details on how Crescendo is used on this site (and where you can get it) click here [in 2nd window]
- We had a lot of recent additions to my listing of Canadian Visual Artists on the Web -- the listing by mid June/96 was up to close to 50 Canadian artists with images of their work on the web [since grown to almost 90]
- We've added an Artists' Feedback Page [in 2nd window] where I've posted (with permission) an interchange of messages with another artist. Perhaps more will be added in due course. Art can be a lonely business. This page is intended to show that one can indeed meet kindred spirits via the Internet. I am not, of course, trying to duplicate the many existing art discussion fora which already exist. The interchanges on my site are intended to be a lot less comprehensive -- but perhaps a little more personal.
- The Good Garden Guide [in 2nd window] a new garden book which came out in 1996, has a page discussing Merike's sculpture garden
What Was New at the Merike Lugus Sculpture Garden in Autumn/95
- A one-woman show was held of Merike's paintings and sculptures at the RADER GALLERIES in Bellingham, WA from November 17, 1995 until the end of December. The Rader Galleries are continuing to represent Merike on the west coast.
- We prepared a brief story on how this show originated through an Internet contact.
What Was New at the Merike Lugus Sculpture Garden in August/95
- We added an improved image of the Wedding Arch>.
.
What Was New at the Merike Lugus Sculpture Garden in July/95
- We moved on Jul 5/95. While the folks at InfoRamp gave excellent service for our initial open house and 9 to 5 Communications were helpful in housing our initial RodMer Arts website, the need for greater, yet economical, storage space led us to Internex Online (in Toronto) and our need for local access (and to avoid personal bankruptcy paying long-distance charges) led us to the newly fledged Eagle.CA (right here in Cobourg).
- We began a List of Canadian Visual Artists Offering Work on the Web -- simply because it's hard to locate them all in one place. But our listing is still extremely preliminary. We hope in the coming months to flesh it out. The listing will include, for each artist, one image and an artist's statement (this is a free service).
- We began a guidance page on How to Put a Page on CultureNet and offered to help any Canadian artist (free) prepare an html page and scanned image for inclusion on CultureNet.

- We overhauled the access to the different sections of RodMer Arts to make each section (such as the Merike Lugus Sculpture Garden) stand more on its own. You can still access the RodMer Arts home page for general information (notes on Netscape viewing, what's new at RodMer, why we're on the net, our policies, etc.). .
- We provided a background concert for Mac users (with Quicktime 2.0) as you stroll around the Sculpture Garden -- a series of flute and guitar duets from Rod's Concert Hall. [We'll have something for PC users shortly.] . .

What Was New at the Merike Lugus Sculpture Garden in May/95
- We added some lists of our favourite art sites on the Web (still preliminary) [on the RodMer Arts home page]

- We reformatted most of the pages to make them a little easier to read on a 640x480 screen.
- We use a 19-inch screen at home and perhaps had overlooked the layout requirements for the standard, smaller screen -- we're learning.
- In the Sculpture Garden: a large new sculpture, Vulnerable Angel, of whom I'm very fond, was added and a new steel garden trellis.
.
- A few images of existing works were revised to improve their quality.
.
- We added a garden sculpture catalogue with small, thumbnail images. If you're re-visiting this site, and know the sculpture you want to view, the catalogue loads faster and so will get you there sooner. But if you're coming for the first time, we'd recommend starting with the sculpture garden itself.

- Some forms were added to simplify any feedback you'd care to send us.
.
- We added a listing of places where we're listed on the Web -- the majority of these were simply a directory listing -- but some (such as Internet StudioVisit and Canada Net Art Gallery) are larger: anywhere from a paragraph to a large multi-image page -- others interested in the arts may want to check these sites out for their own use
